STAMFORD — Humorous tweets and social media posts were flying Wednesday afternoon in the wake of President-elect Donald Trump announcement that he’d tapped former WWE CEO Linda McMahon to run the Small Business Administration.

Within minutes of the news, “Linda McMahon” soared to the top trend on Twitter in the United States, with thousands of memes, tweets, and wrestling memories coming out.

And that shouldn’t be surprising: Trump has been a major supporter — and participant — in World Wrestling Entertainment since the late 1980s, when the company held matches at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City.

For years, he was a ringside regular, and in 2007, he climbed in himself. Trump was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

In 2007, Trump challenged WWE owner Vince McMahon to a proxy bout: The loser lost his hair. McMahon’s wrestler was defeated, and Trump gleefully shaved McMahon’s head.

But while Trump has never officially competed in the ring, he’s both knocked out an opponent and been knocked out.

Here, you can see Trump himself knocked out by Stone Cold Steve Austin:

McMahon got a similar treatment too:

And here, you can see Trump hit and tackle Vince McMahon, Linda’s husband, ringside:

And Trump and Vince McMahon have had a fun rivalry:

The WWE even compiled some of Trump’s greatest moments with the organization, which you can find here.

Since the political announcement, the jokes have also been flying on social media:
