WALLINGFORD -- With the holiday season upon us, package shipping stores are feeling the pressure. But UPS has some tips to make sure your gifts arrive smoothly under your far-off loved one's trees.
- Get a new, appropriately-sized shipping cardboard box
- It should have 3 inches of space on all sides, including the bottom, especially if it's an electronic item
- Fill the space with foam peanuts or bubble wrap to protect the item
- Seal perishables in airtight containers
- This is important: put a secondary shipping label, with the destination and return addresses, INSIDE the box in case the outside label is ripped off.
- Use professional wrapping tape to seal it all up.
UPS says its busiest week is December 12 to December 17, so don't wait for the last minute!
