HARTFORD — More than 100 state police sergeants and troopers have been paid more than $50,000 in overtime this year.

The Hartford Courant reports that hundreds of Connecticut state police troopers and sergeants are earning thousands in overtime on top of their base salaries of $91,000 and $101,000.

A total of $26.6 million has been spent on department overtime this year.

The paper said the statistics come from a new website launched by State Comptroller Kevin Lembo intended to give the public easier online access to up-to-date pay information for state employees.

Not all of the overtime is taxpayer-funded.

A state police spokeswoman said 27 percent of the overtime in 2015 came from shifts at highway construction sites which is paid by construction firms and doesn’t count toward police pension calculations.
