NEW YORK — NYPD officers from the South Bronx are aiming to raise $100,000 for the family in the wake of the tragic deaths of their young daughters who were killed in an accident involving a steam radiator Wednesday.
The NYPD officers created a GoFundMe to help raise money to support the Ambrose family. At the time of publication, just over $3,500 has been raised in the past two days, and the officers aim to raise $100,000 total.
Authorities say two sibling toddlers died after suffering steam burns in a New York City apartment, and investigators are looking into whether a radiator malfunctioned.
The New York Police Department says 1-year-old Scylee Vayoh Ambrose and 2-year-old Ibanez Ambrose were taken from a Bronx apartment to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The medical examiner will determine what caused their deaths. However, fire officials say both children had severe burns apparently caused by a steam leak from a malfunctioning radiator.
A neighbor told WABC-TV that she heard a woman screaming and saw steam emerging from the closed door.
