MONTVILLE -- Wreaths Across America's convoy made a stop in Connecticut on Tuesday as it makes its rounds across the nation.
The organization travels across the country each year to lay wreaths at the gravesites of fallen soldiers and veterans. This year, more than 1.2 million wreaths will be laid at gravesites nationwide, according to Arthur Langley, who is with the organization. He said it is meant "to honor our nation's finest and best."
The so-called "veterans' parade" starts in Harrington, Maine, where the tradition began, and goes down to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
On Tuesday, the convoy of trucks stopped in Montville at the Saint Bernard School. About 150 volunteers came with 16 tractor trailers, buses and other vehicles filled with wreathes. There was also a Black Hawk flyover to honor the event.
Some, like Kim Leventhal, came to remember a loved one. "I came to honor my dad, who was a P47 pilot. He through 114 combat missions in the European theater."
Dozens attended the ceremony in Connecticut to honor our veterans.
"I've never felt more patriotic in my whole life," said one attendee, Meredith Downey.
