MADISON -- There's a handwritten sign posted high up in The Madison Coffee Shop that reads "Thank you for your business." Now more than ever, they mean it.

After a 60 year run, the Route 1 staple in the heart of the town will serve its last cup of coffee.

Owner Wayne Martin has worked the grill since 2006, and his in-laws had the gig for 20 years before that. But after Christmas Eve, the family will say goodbye, closing up the restaurant.

In the meantime, the shop's employees still write "thank you" on the checks, even as they phase out the "and come again" part.
