SUFFIELD — They may have been more than 2,000 miles apart, but a person in Arizona and first responders in Connecticut worked together to save a young woman’s life.

Early Sunday morning, Suffield Police got a 911 call from a person who was in Arizona. He said he was on an internet chat with an 18 year old woman who he knew lived in Suffield, Connecticut, and that he believed she was actively experiencing an overdose.

The on-duty dispatcher used the woman’s cell phone number to find her location, which was in Suffield. The dispatcher sent Sgt. Nelson and Sgt. Trovato, of Suffield Police, to the address, and they found a woman who was unresponsive and not breathing.

The officers administered the anti-opioid drug naloxone, which reverses the effects of an overdose, to the victim, and she regained consciousness and alertness. They provided medical care to her while waiting for an ambulance, which took her to the hospital.

Suffield Police said their thoughts are with the woman and her family, and they’re thankful their training could be put into practice. The department started training officers in October on using the antidote, and this was the department’s “first Narcan save.” Narcan is one of the brand name versions of naloxone.
