FAIRFIELD — Police say they have made an arrest in weekend sexual assault and robbery in Fairfield.

Officers responded to Reef Road at 10:20 p.m. Saturday after a woman said she had been sexually assaulted and robbed at knifepoint.

Lt. Robert Kalamaras said the woman said she was walking from the train station when she heard heavy footsteps approaching from behind and was attacked.

“Officers began to track shoe impressions in the snow along with a blood trail that was believed to have been left by the suspect as a result of the struggle with the victim,” police said.

The suspect was apprehended nearby.

No name was immediately released, but police say the suspect has a criminal history that includes convictions for robbery, sexual assault, carjacking, rape, drugs and burglary in multiple states.
