NAUGATUCK -- Police responded to a burglary at a residence on New Haven Road in Naugatuck, Friday evening, but turned the terrible event into a positive experience for the residents.

A woman living in the home told police that her home was broken into and various items had been taken, including a Playstation 4 game system that was intended for her 10-year-old son for Christmas.

Officers investigating the crime decided to pool their money together to pay for a replacement Playstation 4 for the boy.  The officers went to a nearby Game Stop to purchase the new gaming system. Once the store manager heard why the officers where there, the store pitched in to provide a generous discount off the price.

The video below shows police giving the mother the new PS4, and her son's reaction when he hears the news. They gave her the option of holding the gift until Sunday or to give the gift immediately to her son, but she opted to give him an early holiday present.

The Naugatuck Police department thanked Game Stop and those involved with helping the family.

The investigation of the burglary is still on going. Police would like to ask if anyone has information to please call Naugatuck Police: (203-729-5221) or NDP Confidential Tip Line: (203-720-1010)
