BLOOMFIELD — The town council approved tax breaks designed to lure a Trader Joe’s warehouse to be built in town which is expected to create 600 jobs.

On Monday night, the council unanimously approved a 50 percent tax abatement on the added value with Trader Joe’s which is meant to attract the grocery company to Bloomfield.

Bloomfield and a town in Upstate New York are in the running for the warehouse. If built, it wouldn’t be far from the Amazon warehouse in town.

Town officials said Trader Joe’s has already scheduled site work at the location – which means they have a picked a start date for contractors to begin building the new warehouse. They have also submitted all of the necessary applications.

“Until the shovels are actually in the ground and the property has changed hands, you can’t be 100% sure it will happen. But, everything is moving forward, as planned,” Bloomfield Town Planner José Giner.
