HARTFORD -- Top-ranked UConn tied its own NCAA record with its 90th consecutive win, routing No. 20 South Florida 102-37 on Tuesday night.

Saniya Chong scored 20 points to lead six players in double figures for the Huskies (15-0, 2-0 American Athletic Conference), who matched the streak Geno Auriemma's program set between November 2008 and December 2010.

Maria Jespersen had 11 points for South Florida (13-2, 2-1 American Athletic Conference), which has never beaten UConn in 21 attempts.

Fans before Tuesday night’s game were optimistic it would end in a Huskies win.

“It’s very hard to get as far as they have anyways but to tie the record, I honestly believe they’re gonna beat it,” fan Sandy Veillette said. “I feel they’re gonna go all the way.”

“I think Connecticut’s really proud to have them and they’re proud to be here,” season ticketholder Carol DeCambra said. “They’re special kids.”

DeCambra is confident about another championship season saying she already bought her tickets for Dallas.

“We thought this was gonna be a building year but these kids got a lot of heart they got a lot of heart, they’re coming right through,” she said. “I think this is gonna be interesting season.”

Tuesday night’s win marks the second time the team won 90 games in a row since 2010.

The last time the UConn women lost a game was in 2014, in overtime, against Stanford.

If the Huskies win Saturday’s game against SMU in Dallas, they will break their record with a 91 game streak.
