WEST HARTFORD — Police arrested two people and recovered guns near the Los Imperios restaurant and night club Thursday night.

He said police regularly have officers stationed at the area outside the business because of a high number of incidents there.

On Friday at about 12:45 a.m. police said they heard an argument taking place then they heard what they believed to be a single gunshot.

They said they then heard a car speed off that failed to immediately stop for an officer, but was pulled over on Auburn Road. Police found a 9mm handgun inside the vehicle, as well as a fake gun. A small amount of marijuana was also found, according to police. The handgun was of the same caliber from the spent shell casing located on scene.

“They actually heard a shot fired, were able to witness a car fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed, quickly responded to that, were able to get the car stopped, where we were able to make an arrest of two individuals that were involved in firing the shot,” said West Haven Police Captain Frank Fallon.

Police arrested Chazz Gaither, 22, and Dashawn Godwin, 30, both of Hartford.

Godwin was charged with one count of having weapons in a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, possession of less than .5 oz of marijuana, criminal possession of a firearm, and having a high-capacity magazine (for having 12 rounds in the magazine with his weapon). He was held on a $300,000 bail.

Gaither was charged with one count of having weapons in a motor vehicle. He was held on a $50,000 bail.

In September, there was another shooting that took place around the same area, and no one was injured in that incident.

Police blocked off Farmington Avenue between Trout Brook Drive and Dover Road in West Hartford on Friday morning while they investigated.

Police were on the scene for several hours Friday morning checking the area. There were no injuries, damage or risk to the public, according to police.
