WEST HARTFORD -- A charging cell phone may be to blame for a fire that tore through a West Hartford condo Tuesday morning. Three people, including two firefighters, were sent to the hospital after a bedroom fire at 8 Rosemary Court in West Hartford.

Fire officials said the fire broke out just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in a second-floor bedroom. The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes, officials said. Police say the cell phone was charging on a bed when it caught fire. The fire department is investigating the cell phone as the cause of the fire.

Lillia Burnett was inside the home and was taken to St. Francis Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Two firefighters were also transported to the hospital, one for a minor burn injury to their ear. The other firefighter also suffered a minor injury.

Police say Burnett's 9-year-old grandson woke her up and alerted her to the fire, possibly saving her life. Firefighters also rescued one cat from the home that is doing just fine.

Fire crews said the second floor was badly damaged and there is smoke and water damage throughout the building.

The West Hartford Fire Department is collecting clothing for Burnett because she lost all of hers in the fire. They're collecting clothes for her at 1068 New Britain Avenue. They are looking for size medium tops, size large sweaters, size 8-10 pants and size 9.5 shoes.
