NEW HAVEN — A tractor-trailer truck driver believes she may have fallen asleep behind the wheel and drifted into a guard rail and hit a pole Tuesday morning.

The right lane, center lane and off-ramp were closed on I-91 south between exits 3 and 2 in New Haven because of the overturned tractor-trailer truck but were reopened at around 7:45 a.m. All lanes were reopened an hour later at 8:45 a.m. but the exit 3 off-ramp remained closed, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

Connecticut State Police said the truck was hauling produce and the pole that was struck was supporting a traffic sign.

They said the driver, Julie Rodriguez, of the Bronx, NY, needed to be extricated and suffered minor injuries, so she was taken to the hospital. She was given a verbal warning for failure to maintain the proper lane.
