March 2017 is National Nutrition Month and focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

The importance of school meals:

Currently, one in six adolescents are obese, while one in five face hunger on a daily basis. For many students participating in the school breakfast and lunch programs, these meals provide up to 50% of their daily nutrient needs. The School Nutrition Association of CT or SNACT, believes well-nourished minds and bodies for Connecticut children ensures lifelong health and success.

And school meals have come a long way. Today, kids are offered healthy, tasty and appealing choices. Many Connecticut schools offer farm to school, ethic inspired meals, locally sourced produce and engage students in taste tests.
