Bristol man dies after crashing into route 9 median in Essex

ESSEX — Connecticut State Police are investigating after a fatal crash Saturday morning on Route 9.

Police say the man, Keith Engle, 38 of Bristol, was traveling northbound on Route 9 in Essex when he drove off the road into the whire rope barrier where he then struck a tree. The car ended up in the wooded median against a tree a half mile north of exit 2.

Engle was trapped in his vehicle and needed to be extricated by crews on the scene.

Engle was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Lifestar was initially requested, but was called off by the paramedic on the scene.

Route 9 is now back open in the area. Police continue to investigate. They ask if anyone has any information concerning this crash, please call Tfc. Pederson at Troop F in Westbrook, 860-339-2100.
