NORWALK — A father and his daughter are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in Norwalk. Police identified the pair Monday morning as Melissa Wilkinson, 33, and Mark Wilkinson, 55.
Police said Mark shot his daughter sometime Sunday, then shot himself Monday morning.
Police said they got a call Monday morning from someone who went to Wilton Avenue in Norwalk to check on a co-worker, Melissa, who hadn’t shown up for work. The person told police that they saw her lying on the floor covered in blood through a window, so they kicked in the door and found her dead. They told police they also saw a man sitting in the apartment holding a gun, so they ran away and called 9-1-1.
Police said they got there and tried to speak with Mark but he refused. SWAT and crisis negotiators arrived and attempted to make contact with him. Mark continued to refuse to talk with the officers, police said. During the standoff, officers heard a single gunshot so SWAT used a camera to see inside the apartment and saw he too was dead. SWAT then entered the apartment and confirmed two dead people inside.
Neighbors were evacuated from the area for a time during the standoff Monday morning, but were later allowed back into their homes.
Police will continue to investigate.
