WINDSOR LOCKS — Authorities are investigating after a car crashed in a canal near Main Street in Windsor Locks early Friday morning.
Police say around 12:26 a.m., a witness reported a vehicle what was heading south on RT 159, was traveling at a high rate of speed. It went off the roadway, through a guard rail, appeared to have driven into the canal at the intersection of Main Street and Chuch Street.
When officers arrived, a driver and two passengers were found as they were climbing out of the canal after exiting their vehicle and swimming to safety. One person was reported to have a minor laceration and all refused medical treatment.
Police issued a field sobriety test, which didn’t indicate any intoxication. The driver, Tomas Mccabe, 22, of Broad Brook, was issued a summons for reckless driving.
Crews from Tolland County also responded to help out Windsor Locks first-responders.
