HARTFORD--- Police are investigating after a deadly car crash happened overnight in Hartford.

Authorities said one person died after the car crashed into a pole on Sisson Avenue near the Shepherd Park Elderly Housing Complex.

Police said Ernesto Santana died in the crash. He was 27 years old.

A security guard for the residence said he saw the crash happen when he began his shift just after midnight.

"It couldn't have been going too fast but I mean it was going fast enough," said Shepherd Park security guard, Michael Gondola, "I saw the car was split in half basically."

Gondola said he rushed to the scene to check on the victim, and make sure it wasn't a resident of the complex.

Sisson Avenue was closed between Gray Street to Warrenton Avenue for several hours but has since reopened.
