ST. ALBANS, Vt. — Police said a juvenile girl who went missing, was found safe after traveling with a Vermont sex offender.

State police said they found the girl Thursday shortly after the car she was believed to have been riding in was spotted in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

State police said they found her with 47-year-old William Smith who’s on the Vermont sex offender registry and has no permanent address. The juvenile was reported missing by her mother on Sunday evening.

She was found not injured and in good health, and was taken into protective custody, according to police.

Smith is charged with improper use of license and registration, operating a motor vehicle with no license and fugitive arrest with no warrant.

He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
