HADDAM -- DEEP has identified the teen who is missing in the Connecticut
Officials said Jay Agli, 17, of Meriden was trying to help his sister when he disappeared. He reportedly went into the river to assist his 19-year old sister who had gone into the water from the sand bar. His sister was picked up by a nearby boater.
Emergency crews resumed searching at 8 a.m. Monday for a swimmer missing in the Connecticut River since Sunday afternoon.
About 5:20 p.m., Sunday EnCon Police were notified that the teen from Meriden was swept away from shore at Haddam Meadows State Park, Haddam. Coast Guard officials said he dove into the water after another member in his party struggled to get to shore and then did not resurface.
Crewss searched by land, boats and with dive teams at this time. State EnCon Police, State Police, US Coast Guard, Haddam Fire Department, Chester Fire Department, and Middletown Fire Department and Dive Team and Police Department were on the scene.
