GROTON– A Connecticut State Trooper has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation into a bar fight.

Jeff Meninno, 52, of Waterford, had his badge and gun confiscated on Saturday just after 4 a.m., according to state police

Groton police said he was arrested for an assault that took place earlier Saturday morning at around 1 a.m. at the Chapter One Restaurant, Bar and Grill in Mystic.

Police said Meninno hit another bar patron in the face several times, resulting in injuries that required the victim to be taken to L&M Hospital for treatment.

Police said Meninno pushed somebody who tried to intervene, then Meninno left the bar after the incident and was found at his home in Waterford, where he was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, and third-degree assault.

He was released later in the day on a $2,500 bail and Tuesday June 20 in New London.

The State Police Union released a statement that read in part: “While we are disappointed to learn that one of our members was arrested, all of the facts and circumstances involving the alleged
incident have yet to be reported and the public should not rush to judgment based on headlines alone.”

The union said, “Meninno, who was formerly a Union vice president, was removed from his position earlier this year and was not a Union official at the time of his arrest.”
