NEW HAVEN — A teenage boy was critically injured after being shot Sunday evening.
Police said around 9:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to Bassett Street, near Newhall Street, after a person was reportedly shot. They found the victim, a 14-year-old boy from New Haven, who had been shot and was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was listed in critical condition.
Police say that it appears the victim was the specific target of the shooter and that this was not a drive-by assault.
Witnesses tell police the shooter was a passenger in a white Cross-over type vehicle. Originally, the perp’s vehicle was thought to have been a Toyota sedan. The Cross-over vehicle driver is a black man. The shooter wore a white shirt, denim jean shorts, “Jordan” sneakers and a black face mask.
Police did not release the shooter’s gender and race.
