HAMDEN — Police are looking for a man who allegedly exposed himself to a 9 and 10-year-old girl on Saturday evening and on Wednesday released pictures of the suspect’s vehicle.
On July 15, police responded to Maher Avenue on a report of indecent exposure. Police say that the investigation revealed that two young girls were selling rocks in the front yard. The suspect stopped by to purchase a rock and then moments later, returned in his car to buy another one.
Police said the man then called the 10-year-old over to his car and told her he wanted to buy another rock. The girl told police when she got to his car, the man had exposed his genitals and was touching himself. Police also said the man then made a lewd comment to the girl and sped away toward Lincoln Street.
“The 10-year-old that approached this person’s car immediately ran back to her friend and then they ran back to their home and advised their parents,” Captain Ronald Smith of the Hamden Police Department said.
Officers searched the area but could not locate the individual.
The man is described as a white, in his late thirties, bald, with a goatee and was wearing round-framed glasses with a black shirt. His car is described as a two door, silver Honda Accord with a loud muffler.
Police told FOX61 they have sent the description of car and of the man’s out to police departments across the state.
Police are advising parents in all communities, “If there’s small children looking to sell lemonade, rocks, whatever they’re selling, it’s always good to always keep an on their children always be in close proximity,” Captain Smith said. He added, “They could actually equip themselves with a whistle if they see anything suspicious blow on a whistle that might alert a parent, or neighbor.”
