AVON -- On Monday morning, one local fire department honored those who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The Avon Fire Department has been doing yearly ceremonies since the attacks.

One couple who attended the ceremony had their youngest daughter taken in the terrorist attacks. Amy Toyen was 24 years old when she was in New York for a business trip. She lived and worked in Boston but was raised in Avon. She was inside the Twin Towers when they were hit.

Her parents said they try to attend the ceremony every year and feel a tremendous amount of support from the Avon community.

"We would like everyone to remember our first responders," said Martin Toyen, Amy's dad

Martin Toyen said the last time he saw Amy was to help her buy a wedding dress.

"She's always with us we always remember her but the 11th is always more difficult," said Dorine Toyen, Amy's mother.

Amy would have been 40-years-old today.
