SOUTHINGTON BREAKING

SOUTHINGTON —  An alert for a missing suspect put the town of Southington on high alert Monday evening.

Sergeant Darrin McKay of the Meriden Police Department says that the incident began in the city, by Meriden Square Mall when members of the department tried to stop the suspect vehicle.

The car failed to stop and police deployed stop sticks which were effective in deflating one of more of the tires on the car.

The driver still didn’t stop for officers and instead was able to make it onto I-691 westbound. The car then traveled onto I-84 east where it eventually lost control and crashed. There were two men in the car that fled on foot.

State Police and members of the Southington Police Department then assisted in the search for both suspects.

One of the men was found and arrested, the other one was not.

Police say an armed suspect described as a black male with a black hoodie and black pants fled into the surrounding Milldale/Plantsville section of Southington.

The search was eventually called off around 8:30 p.m. with police suspecting that the suspect may have left the area.
