Very minor injuries were reported, with students on board the bus at the time. EMS were on the scene evaluating.

Deputy Police Chief Scott Custer said of the 10 students taken to Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, only one had a visible injury — a minor cut.

"The front of the van hit the front of the bus. Exactly how, I don't know, but the two fronts of the vehicles were significantly damaged," said Kevin Cooney of the South Windsor Fire Department.

"I was on my way to work and the bus route got changed because of the crash. I got lost here, because I didn't know the way here," said Jaimesha Gilbert, a commuter.

The bus was taking students from Hartford to South Windsor.

The ages of the children were not immediately disclosed.

The crash remains under investigation.
