HARTFORD -- Summit Street in Hartford is closed at New Britain Avenue after a serious car crash.

A single car crashed into a brick pillar on the Trinity College campus. Hartford police say it happened right on the campus just after 3:50 a.m.

Three people were in the car: Hector Rios-Acavedo, 22, of Hartford, Natash Cruz, 21 , and a 12-year-old passenger. The driver, Rios-Acavedo, was pronounced dead, but the other two passengers were injured.

Given the time and the day it happened, police will be looking into seeing alcohol was a factor in the crash. They say speed played a part.

The crash continues to be under investigation.
