ESSEX --  Connecticut State Police said two people were found dead inside a home Tuesday afternoon.

State police said around 1:30 p.m., troopers responded to Prospect Street to conduct a well-being check.  Upon making entry into the residence, troopers located two deceased people inside.

State police said The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a post-mortem examination in order to determine the cause and manner of death of both individuals.

Essex First Selectman Norman Needleman stopped by the scene to assure the public this was an isolated incident. He said there were no signs of intrusion at the home.

FOX61 spoke to several community members who said they did not know the people who lived in the home.

"I've been here seven years and I said hello to them maybe once or twice and that's it," neighbor Al Moncovich said. "They sort of kept to themselves."

Monocovich said this is unusual for this neighborhood which is normally quiet.

"Right now, I'm just shaking because I never expected this, you know on our little street in our little town," neighbor Joan McCann said. "Never in my life did I ever think that something like that would have happened in this neighborhood."

FOX61 will provide updates as soon as they become available.
