WALLINGFORD -- “We all have kids,” said Wallingford resident Lee Ann Snedeker. “It could’ve been anyone of our children.”

Snedeker said her daughter was at their Highland Avenue home Friday afternoon when she heard a loud crash.

“She heard the car going by very, very fast,” Snedeker said. “And then the big bang. And then she went out. And that’s when they saw the car.”

Wallingford police responded to the scene on Highland avenue between Route 68 and Buttonwood Circle at around 3 pm.

Officers discovered two teen males ages 15 and 16 inside of a car that appeared to be partially wrapped around a tree.

Officials said the driver of the car is in conscious and stable condition but suffered multiple fractures as a result of the collision.

The passenger of the car is unconscious with a head injury and has been stabilized in the Pediatric ICU of Yale New Haven Hospital. He was identified by his family in a post on GoFundMe as Tre Childers, 15. The driver has been identified as sophomore Jordan Davis, 16. He underwent major leg surgery.

Soon Snedeker’s husband learned of the accident.

“My daughter has a gray car, at first he thought it was our daughter,” said Snedeker. “And he was freaking out.”

Her husband soon realized the victims were two Sheehan High School Football players, who attend the school with his daughter.

Police said the victims were both extricated from the vehicles and taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.

“They were in the car or pin down pretty bad,” Snedeker said. “And they had to get the jaws of life out of there for them to get out.”

It’s not clear what caused the accident but Snedeker said people are known to speed on Highland Avenue.

“I have kids,” Snedeker said. “I don’t let them in front because you just never now. They’re always going by fast here. Always.”

Regardless, Snedeker is hoping the victims, who she’s known for years pull through.

“We all have kids,” she said. “It could’ve been anyone of our children. And I just pray, pray, pray for quick healing. And sending hugs and comfort. That’s all I can say.”
