Man shot dead in broad daylight in Hartford identified

HARTFORD -- Police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead Monday.

Lt. Chief Brian Foley confirmed the incident on Westland and Garden Streets was a homicide. Police said Tyrell Spence, 20, was shot in the stomach multiple times and was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital.

At around 12:30 p.m., police were called to 188 Westland Street after callers reported a man shot in a gray Inifiniti.  They found a man suffering from what appeared to be several gunshot wounds.  Police said people in the area were trying to treat his wounds.

The man was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead at around 1:15 p.m.
