Story by Yasmine Alami

Not far from the bustling city of Connecticut’s capital, Hartford, is a safe haven for animals in the small town of Ashford.

The town is home to Our Companions Animal Rescue, the only one of its kind in New England.

Founded in 2002, the Sanctuary is known as Connecticut’s first animal rescue, rehabilitation and adoption center. The building houses animals that have been traumatized, neglected and abused, making them extremely vulnerable.

However, through the compassionate works of Our Companions the animals are provided a comforting, home-life, enriching environment that encourages healing and rehabilitation.
