HARTFORD — Lawyers for the City of Milford, where a teenage girl was stabbed to death at her high school, are asking a state judge to end a wrongful death lawsuit by the student’s mother, saying school officials aren’t liable.

Attorneys for Milford and the city’s schools filed the request in Superior Court earlier this month in the case involving 16-year-old Maren Sanchez.

Sanchez was killed at Jonathan Law High School by fellow student Christopher Plaskon in April 2014. Police alleged Plaskon was upset Sanchez rejected his prom invitation. He pleaded no contest to murder and is serving a 25-year prison sentence.

The lawsuit states that school officials failed to follow procedures and state law after Sanchez told them she worried Plaskon might harm himself or others. Milford’s lawyers deny the allegations.
