WINDSOR LOCKS --  Police said two people were hit by cars Wednesday night near Friendly's on Route 75, also known as the Ella Grasso Turnpike, in Windsor Locks. One person has died, while two others were hospitalized.

Michael Mangeri, 64, of Windsor Locks was driving his Chevy Cruz north on Rt. 75 when he hit a pedestrian, Jessica Gelabert, 30, of Hartford, who was crossing the street.

Mangeri stopped and got out of his car to help when he was hit by a second car driven by Brian Root, 30, of Agawam, Massachusetts. Mangeri was trapped under his car, and the Windsor Locks Fire Department responded to help extricate him, according to Lt. Paul Cherniack.

Police said all three people were taken to the hospital, Mangeri was pronounced dead.  The woman, Gelebert, is expected to be OK, and Root was being treated for symptoms of shock, according to police.

The road was closed for several hours but has since been reopened. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
