HARTFORD -- Police are investigating a shooting Wednesday afternoon that involved a DEA Task force member who shot a suspect a block away from St Francis Hospital.

Dep. Chief Brian Foley said the incident started when undercover Hartford Police and DEA agents observed a suspect they said was connected to a homicide last week, involved in the sale of narcotics on Sigourney Street.

When officers attempted to detain the suspect, he attempted to drive off. Foley said that DEA agents fired one or two shots, striking the suspect.

The suspect was transported to St. Francis Hospital with wounds to the upper chest and arm. Police said he was in stable condition.  Officers were treated for minor injuries.

Foley said no Hartford police officers fired shots during the incident and two officers were treated and released from hospitals.

The State's Attorney's office is handling the investigation.
