HARTFORD -- Hartford police are investigating an early morning shooting that happened on Wethersfield Avenue in Hartford on Wednesday.

"My bedroom is right here, and I know I heard the gunshots, like four or five shots," said Simone Jessamy, a Hartford resident who lives by the crime scene.

Police confirm their ShotSpotter technology alerted them to six shots on Wethersfield Avenue around 4:23 Wednesday morning.

"Then I heard yelling for help, help, and then he ran up on the steps, and was banging on the door very loud," said Jessamy. "So, I called 911, and the cops came up pretty quickly, and they took him."

The victim is a 38-year-old man from Hartford who was shot several times in the chest and hand.

"He was alert, oriented," said Jessamy. "He was yelling help, me help me."

He was then transported to Hartford Hospital where he was listed in serious condition.

“This is Hartford, this is Wethersfield Avenue, as soon as the weather gets good this is a normal thing around here,” said Jessamy.

Others said they are not surprised that this happened, but they are scared of the violence that is happening in Hartford.

"It seems like everyday something going on like that," said Angel Lopez of East Hartford, who heard what happened after dropping his grandson off at a nearby school.

"I'm just appalled, I'm shocked, I don't believe this," said Andy Barnes of Newington, who knows people who live in the area. "It is getting too close."

Police are not releasing any information on a suspect at this time but say C-4 cameras in the area will help them to determine who is responsible.

"I've called the cops so many times," said Jessamy. "I just have to move from here."
