EAST HARTFORD — What a mess!
A tractor-trailer struck a bridge on Route 15/5 near I-84, spilling its cargo is all over the road, and causing headaches for commuters all morning long. But the truck driver got a couple of headaches of his own, in the form of two citations.
Connecticut State Police say the tractor-trailer was headed north on Route 15 in East Hartford near exit 90 at about 5:30 a.m. when it veered off the road and hit the I-84 underpass, scattering its load of detergent products all over the highway. The truck was disabled; the cleanup and towing of the vehicle had both sides of Route 15 at least partially closed for hours. As of 11 a.m., state police reported that although the southbound side was reopened, the northbound side was crawling by on just the shoulder. The highway is now reopened.
The driver was not injured, but he was found to be at fault and police cited him for Failure to Keep In Proper Lane. State police say he also couldn’t produce a valid license and was charged with Operating Without a License.
