HARTFORD --Hartford Police have confirmed that security cameras were not working at the pool where they recovered the body of a teenage boy in Keney Park Pool early Wednesday morning.

Police say the victim was 16-year-old, and would have turned 17 next week.

Officials said security cameras designed to notify police of intruders was not working at the time of the incident. Police said security systems are operational at other pools.

Keney Park Pool is a public pool in the north end of Hartford. The park hours are dawn until dusk, and police say they believe the boy may have jumped the fence to get inside.

Police say they had a report of a missing person around 1 am, and then another call about a person in the pool around 2am.

A group was seen running away from the pool around that time.

Police say they found the boy in the pool.  Fire and EMS responded, and rushed him to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 3:15 am.
Officials confirm that the boy was the only person in the pool, and it does not seem as though there was any foul play. The boy did not appear to have any other visible injuries when police found him.

Police do not have any witnesses at this time, but major crimes is assisting in this investigation.

Hartford Police Department Lieutenant Mertes says this is a tragic reminder of the dangers of ‘pool hopping,’ and going into pools after hours.
