MIDDLETOWN — Police agencies across Connecticut have arrested nearly 200 people wanted for a variety of felonies and misdemeanors during a statewide arrest warrant “sweep.”

State police say more than 90 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies served 285 arrest warrants in the operation that began before dawn Wednesday. Officials called the roundup the largest in recent memory.

Authorities say the effort took several months of planning and resulted in 197 arrests.

Law enforcement officials say potentially dangerous fugitives were removed from the streets and the operation showed the high level of commitment and collaboration among police agencies.

Hartford police say they charged a half-dozen people with probation violations. Shelton police say they arrested 11 people on charges ranging from burglary to failure to appear in court.
