COVENTRY -- Investigators are still trying to determine what started an early morning fire at the Wicked Slice pizza restaurant in Coventry Friday morning. The North Coventry fire chief tells Fox61 News someone called 911 just before 6 o'clock Friday morning to report the fire. No one was in the building at the time.

"We're just all probably in a state of shock right now," says Jon Murray, the executive chef at the restaurant. "We just started a great delivery service in town and we have a lot of employees that count on this and it's just devastating."

At least six different fire departments responded because there are no fire hydrants on Main Street. The hot and humid weather made fighting the fire more difficult.

"The first crew in made an awesome stop with two people," says Ray Eldridge, the Chief of the North Coventry Fire Department. "We were lucky."

This isn't the first time Wicked Slice has been on FOX61 News.

Sean Pragano featured the restaurant on Foodie Friday in December last year.

The executive chef of Wicked Slice says that the kitchen is almost unrecognizable.

"It looks like almost a total loss in there right now. I don't know if the roof is collapsed. I don't know if we'll be able to rebuild it or not," says Murray.

Owner James Donahue opened the restaurant two years ago. He was on vacation when he heard about the fire. Murray says he started heading home as soon as he heard the news. Employees say they are devastated.

"I've been cooking my whole life and this is the best job I've ever had," says Murray. "I'm sure we'll rebuild somewhere, but it's going to take a while to do for sure."
