Working fire reported at Meriden elementary School

MERIDEN — Meriden firefighters responded to a fire at the Thomas Hooker Elementary School, located at 70 Overlook Drive about 9 a.m. on Friday.

Fire officials told FOX61 that they were notified by an alarm system and by calls from people in the area. The fire was limited to the ceiling of one classroom and was quickly contained, but it did create heavy smoke conditions in at least dozen classrooms. Firefighters were still ventilating the building as of 10:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported.  Meriden schools are set to reopen for the year on August 25, with two teacher-prep days scheduled for the week before.
