WEST HARTFORD -- Police said a suicidal man  is in custody after he threatened to hurt himself and others.

Police said that just after 4 a.m., police were called to 38 Shepard Road after reports the man was armed with a knife. At first, police said he was uncooperative and would not respond to police.

After a short amount of time, he eventually voluntarily exited the house, and was placed in custody without incident. He was sent to the hospital for an evaluation.

Several guns were removed from the house. Police say neighbors were also evacuated during the incident.

The scene remains under investigation.
