PLAINFIELD — Repairs to Plainfield Memorial School after an early morning fire may result in the school being closed until December.

Crews found the fire in several administration rooms off a 2nd floor hallway around midnight. The fire was knocked down within an hour with the help of Moosup, Central Village, Atwood Hose, Danielson, and South Killingly fire departments.

The location and spread of the fire and heat compromised a water main near the school resulted in extensive fire damage to the small rooms and the roof where the fire originated and extensive water and soot damage to nearly 2/3rd of the school according to officials.

Officials said the cause of the fire was accidental related to an electrical fixture. Officials believe it will take until December to repair the school building. They are looking for alternate facilities to house the 350 grade 4 & 5 students and the staff at  by the opening of school for students on August 29, 2018 until the restoration of the school is complete.

The faculty and staff will be allowed to recover personal items affected by the fire or to qualify the loss of personal items, said officials.

No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation.
