NEW HAVEN -- Connecticut State Police said that one person was killed and one person was critically injured following a car crash.

Police said a 2010 Ford Taurus was speeding down Quinnipiac Avenue near Foxon Street around 12:55 early Friday morning.

Authorities said the suspect was in the middle of a car chase with Hamden Police Department. Police said the car was reported stolen from Trumbull earlier this month.

Law enforcement said the car was driven by 22-year-old Davis Shealy, and 24-year-old Jarelle Gibbs was the passenger.

Authorities said the car veered off the side of the road and hit a tree. The force was strong enough to jettison the car's engine across the yard.

Police said Gibbs was pronounced dead at Yale New Haven Hospital, and  Shealy remains in critical condition.

Police are asking anyone with information related to the crash or the pursuit leading up to the incident to contact Connecticut State Police.
