BRIDGEPORT — A member of a Connecticut street gang convicted of gunning down a rival gang member has been sentenced to 53 years in prison.
The Connecticut Post reports that 20-year-old Deonte Tomlinson was sentenced Monday for the May 2016 shooting death of 18-year-old Kahlil Diaz in Bridgeport.
Prosecutors say Tomlinson shot Diaz in retaliation just months after Diaz had been acquitted of another gang-related killing.
Authorities say Diaz was getting into a parked car in broad daylight when Tomlinson ran up and shot the victim three times. Tomlinson was caught running from the scene and his DNA was found in a hat the shooter had worn.
He was convicted last month of murder and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Tomlinson did not address the court when given the opportunity.
