GUILFORD – Connecticut State Police have identified two people who were in a tractor-trailer truck that crashed on I-95 North in Guilford Saturday morning, killing the truck’s passenger and shutting down the highway for much of the day.

Police say they responded about 6:20 am to the crash between exits 58 (Route 77) and 59 (Goose Lane) and found tractor-trailer registered in California that ‘for an unknown reason, veered… across both travel lanes, struck the concrete jersey barrier, and then traveled back across both lanes to the right’ and struck the guardrail. The front of the struck had extensive damage.

The driver, 55 year old Martha Gonzalez-DeSalazar of Oklahoma, suffered minor injuries, but the passenger, 43 year old Jose Torres Ramirez, also of Oklahoma, was thrown from the truck and killed.

Both northbound lanes were shut down for over five hours while police investigated the crash. Shortly before noon one lane of traffic was opened up, and the highway wasn’t fully open until late afternoon.

State police the crash remains under investigation.
