NEW HAVEN – One man is dead after the car he was in crashed into the Mill River Saturday night.
First responders were called to Grand Avenue near East Street about 8:40 a.m. Saturday. The car appears to have crashed through a fence and into the water.
A 28-year-old man from Madison died in the car according to police. His name has not been released.
A heavy-duty wrecker has been brought in to recover the 2010 Nissan Altima.
Along with police and fire, the New Haven Accident Reconstruction Team, a dive team, and officials from the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection were on scene. Grand Avenue is closed to traffic.
Police are investigating what caused the car to go off the road.
