East Hartford police arrest man after pursuit, crash

EAST HARTFORD -- Police confirm they were involved in a pursuit over the Founder's Bridge during rush hour this morning.

A FOX61 employee witnessed the car weaving in and out of traffic as police caught up to them. The car hit another car during the pursuit.

Officials with East Hartford police said they attempted to make a motor vehicle stop for motor vehicle violation for misuse of plate.  "The suspect failed to stop and initiated officers on a short pursuit.  The pursuit was self-terminated by East Hartford Police Officers.  The vehicle then entered 84-west from Roberts Street where he struck a couple of vehicles (no injuries reported)  Suspect exited the vehicle and fled into the Hartford Downtown area.  Suspect was located and apprehended a short time later in the Bushnell Park area.  He was taken into custody. "

The suspect was was taken into custody by the State Police.  His name is Steven Leroy Velazquez, 23,  of Hartford.
