NEW HAVEN - Just before 1 a.m., Wednesday, New Haven police were called to Woolsey St. on a report of a woman dead in the road, while a car drove away,
Police will only describe the person, who was killed, as an unknown adult female. However, sources tell FOX61 she was a 27-year-old woman, who was several months pregnant.
Residents of this neighborhood said the woman was hit and dragged down Woolsey St. toward Poplar St. Police say they are looking for a red Toyota Camry, with a model year somewhere between 2002 and 2006.
One resident suggested that the city should invest in putting "cameras on the polls."
Of course, in cases like this, police rely on surveillance video,. Several residents along Woolsey St. turned over their home security camera video to police.
"I just heard a sound and I thought something dropped or something happened so I just took a look and I saw a car going by," said Max Llerena, who provided surveillance video to police.
"It was a four-door sedan, kind of like a dark tone," he said.
Police were called back to Woolsey St. late Wednesday afternoon after a red Camry was seen parked on the street.
But, after examining the car, police said that Camry was at 2010 model and were confident it had not just a short time ago police were looking at a red Toyota Camry parked here on Woolsey Street but it was deemed not to have been involved in the fatal hit and run.
