HARTFORD — Police are investigating an accident that happened Friday night.

Police say they were called to the intersection of Homestead Avenue and Woodland Street, just a couple of blocks from Saint Francis Hospital, about 9:30 p.m. They found a silver 2-door Acura that had been traveling west on Homestead Avenue at a high rate of speed. According to police, the Acura ran the red light at the intersection of Woodland Street, where it struck the AMR ambulance. The impact pushed the ambulance from the northbound lane into the southbound lane, where it struck another car, a Nissan Maxima.

The occupants of the Acura fled the scene on foot.

There were no patients in the ambulance; the 2-person crew in the front seats, and the driver of the Nissan were taken to Saint Francis for minor injuries.

A K-9 unit could not isolate a track for the fleeing suspects. Police have not yet said if the Acura was stolen, or if the intersection is covered by video cameras. If you have any information about this crash, please contact the Hartford Police Department: 860-757-4000
